“The Lotus Pond” 18K Gold Aquamarine Koi Diamond Pearl Enamel Pendant

This sculptural pendant the "Dance of the Koi" is conceived as a miniature wearable work of art, capturing the tranquility and movement of a koi swimming through a pond surrounded by lotus flowers and leaves. Handcrafted in 18K yellow gold, the composition brings together fine jewelry, gemstone carving, hot enamel, and sculptural goldwork in an intimate three-dimensional landscape.

At the center of the pendant is a koi fish individually hand-carved from natural aquamarine. The fish is shaped directly from the gemstone by hand, allowing the translucent blue aquamarine to give the koi an ethereal, luminous presence. Its sculptural form appears to move through the surrounding pond, creating the focal point of the composition.

The pond is brought to life through luminous hot enamel, creating a rich, glass-like surface beneath and around the hand-carved aquamarine koi. Sculpted 18K yellow gold lotus flowers and leaves emerge around the pond, while natural diamonds and pearls are incorporated throughout the composition, introducing points of brilliance and soft luster that evoke light and droplets of water across the surface.

The reverse of the pendant is treated as an integral part of the jewel rather than simply a functional backing. It is finished with additional aquamarine gemstones, allowing precious materials and decorative detail to continue across the reverse and giving the pendant a complete presentation from every viewing angle.

The gold composition begins as an original sculpture hand-carved in wax within the atelier. Once the model has been completed, it is transferred into 18K yellow gold using the traditional lost-wax casting technique, preserving the sculptural forms of the original wax. The gold components are subsequently refined, assembled, chased, polished, enameled, and gemstone-set by hand. The aquamarine koi is separately carved by hand before being carefully incorporated into the finished composition.

Measuring approximately 4 cm (1.6 inches) in diameter, its circular format creates the impression of looking into a miniature pond, with the koi, lotus flowers, gemstones, pearls, and enamel forming a layered three-dimensional scene.

Each pendant is individually handcrafted and made to order, with an estimated production lead time of approximately three months from order confirmation. As every aquamarine koi is carved individually from natural material and every gold composition is finished by hand, subtle variations are inherent to the creation of each example.

In addition to the completed jewel, the client receives a complimentary signed original design sketch prepared by the atelier. The drawing forms part of the artistic process and accompanies the finished pendant as an element of its provenance.

From the initial drawing and wax sculpture to gemstone carving, enameling, setting, and final finishing, each stage is developed and executed individually.

The pendant is created within the Konforti family atelier, a multi-generational workshop led by Inga and Barak Konforti and founded by master artists Ella and Yuri Bogoslavsky. The atelier brings together traditional sculpture, lost-wax casting, gemstone carving, hot enamel, precious-metal work, and fine jewelry techniques in the creation of highly detailed wearable works of art.
