This extraordinary handcrafted Judaica composition titled “Shtetl Havdalah” is a richly symbolic sculptural work inspired by the traditional Jewish village life of the shtetl. The piece is a tribute to the spiritual purity, modesty, and deep sense of community that defined the lives of our ancestors, where Torah study, family unity, hospitality, and the sacred value of tzedakah shaped everyday existence.

Each set is crafted exclusively for the client, with the possibility to tailor certain details and color palettes to individual preferences. Estimated lead time is approximately 4-5 months from order confirmation.
At the center of the composition stands the Havdalah spice holder formed as a small rustic village house, evoking the humble wooden homes that lined the narrow streets of the shtetl. This house symbolizes warmth, family, and spiritual shelter. Beside it, the Besamim container is sculpted in the form of a bundle of hay, referencing agricultural life, simplicity, and the honest labor that sustained village families. The Kiddush cup is designed as a traditional wooden barrel, inspired by the rainwater barrels once found in every courtyard, used for collecting pure rainwater for daily life and household needs.
All elements are presented on a tray stylized as a tree stump, symbolizing rootedness, endurance, and the unbroken connection between generations. The natural form of the stump reflects the close relationship to nature and land that characterized shtetl life and reinforces the sense of stability and continuity passed down through centuries.
The entire composition is executed in solid sterling silver of 925 standard, rich 24K gold vermeil and silver patina, giving the piece both visual warmth and a sense of sacred elevation. The contrast between the silver and gold enhances the sculptural depth and highlights the intricate handwork throughout every surface. The tray measures 25 centimeters (9.8 in) in diameter and the total weight of the piece is approximately 4.5 kilograms, giving it a substantial, museum-quality presence.
This work reflects the reverence with which Shabbat was welcomed in the shtetl and the tenderness with which it was bid farewell. When the first stars appeared in the night sky, families gathered to perform the Havdalah ceremony, saying goodbye to the Queen of Shabbat with blessings, fragrant spices, candlelight, and wine. This composition captures that moment of transition between sacred and everyday life with poetry and authenticity.

Additionally to the finished set, the client will receive a complementary signed original design sketch prepared by the atelier and presented as part of the artistic process and provenance of the commission.
We also create bespoke works on demand, transforming each client’s vision into a one-of-a-kind collectible. From the initial concept and hand-drawn sketches to the final sculptural masterpiece, every stage is guided by precision, artistry, and close collaboration, resulting in objects that are both deeply personal and artistically significant.

Each piece is created within the Konforti family atelier, a multi-generational workshop led by Inga and Barak Konforti, and founded by master artists Ella and Yuri Bogoslavsky. Every work is entirely handcrafted using traditional techniques, sculptural metalwork, and meticulous stone setting, continuing a shared artistic legacy shaped across generations.
