“Napoleon I and the Campaign of 1812 vs. Alexander I”.

This monumental chess set, dedicated to the military genius of Napoleon Bonaparte and the pivotal events of 1812, stands as an extraordinary work of decorative and sculptural art. Designed as a fortified stronghold, the chessboard takes the form of a fortress, evoking the grand strategies, vast campaigns, and defining moments that shaped Napoleon’s rise and legacy across Europe. The dramatic architecture of the board reflects both the brilliance and the monumental scale of Napoleonic warfare during one of history’s most consequential military eras.
Each chess set is crafted exclusively for the client, with the possibility to tailor certain details and color palettes to individual preferences. Estimated lead time is approximately 6–8 months from order confirmation.

The board measures 55 × 55 × 20 cm and is crafted from 925 sterling silver, 960 silver under the hot enamel decorations and 24K gold vermeil, with the silver weight totaling 18 kg and an overall weight of approximately 22 kg. The surface squares of the board, the bases of the chess pieces, and numerous architectural details along the sides are executed in white and black onyx, creating a striking contrast and architectural rhythm.

The chess pieces are finished with hot enamel, while the bases beneath the figures and many ornamental elements of the board are inlaid with white and black diamonds, with a total diamond weight of 12 carats.

The principal chess figures depict Emperor Napoleon I, Empress Joséphine, Emperor Alexander I, and Empress Elizabeth Alexeievna, all executed with precise portrait likeness. The uniforms of officers and soldiers are rendered with historical accuracy, faithfully reflecting the military attire of the early 19th century.

This exceptional chess set is created using traditional master techniques including chasing, engraving, artistic casting, and gemstone inlay, resulting in a work that bridges fine metalwork, sculpture, and historical narrative. It stands as a rare collector’s piece, suitable for distinguished interiors and serious connoisseurs of imperial and Fabergé-style decorative arts.
Additionally to the finished piece, the client will receive a complementary signed original design sketch prepared by the atelier and presented as part of the artistic process and provenance of the commission.
